Half-time Worker

This week, I am officialy only a half-time employee. I am going to worry about money every day I live the rest of my life.

"2020 Dems"

That's what media calls them. Now Biden is the race officially, there are 20 of them.

I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I am registered as an Independent,

But I see clearly that we have an evil man, Trump, in the White House, who aims to win re-election.

If the Democrats are to unseat him, they need to sort this all out and take back the Midwestern states -- where I come from.

Biden may well be their best option. But I do not think he is the face of his party. Or of this increasingly diverse nation.

Mondays Mondays

I no longer go to the office on Mondays.

So I stay home and try to work on my memoir. But I find myself too tired to write. I think I get too excited to sleep the night before. Just to have a day off!

Today I have been spending my free time watching CNN and the Wizard of Oz.

I've been working for 53 years now and have not taken a vacation in ten years. I think I am just too exhausted to do anything much anymore.

The 2020 Race

Biden is set to jump in. He and Sanders lead in the polls. But can an old white man beat the other old white man incumbent?

I doubt it. The Democrats would be wise to unite under a younger candidate, IMHO, and provide a stark contrast to Trump.

Another Weekend Arrives

On Thursday, my son Aidan went on his first ride-along in an ambulance as part of his EMT training. He said they picked up several people who were drunk or on drugs and also someone with a heart problem. He said he enjoyed it.

From the time he was tiny, his Mom and I noticed a certain quality Aidan has: empathy. He always seems to understand what other people are experiencing, feeling.

When you meet him, and say "How are you?" He always answers, "How are YOU?" I think he will make a great EMT, paramedic and firefighter.

He's got the right stuff to help people. And I am proud of him for that, and a lot of other reasons.

My birthday today. Nice party at Connie's with a lot of the family. Yesterday, two visits from good friends. Tomorrow, a Monday, which means a day off.

Things I Do

Today we filmed a segment with Valerie Jarret, a close associate of the Obamas. Tomorrow we have as a guest Janet Napolitano.  Two powerful women on the show.

KQED Newsroom continues to be a major focus of my efforts.

Also today, we had Alex Emslie at our monthly lunch for on-call staffers and interns. He talked about our investigative reporting efforts and was brilliant.
