Goodnight Irene

Irene, bonne nuit Irene
Irene, bonne nuit
Bonne nuit Irène, bonne nuit Irène
Je t'embrasse dans mes rêves

Samedi soir dernier, je me suis marié
Ma femme et moi nous sommes installés
Maintenant, ma femme et moi sommes séparés
Je vais me promener un peu en ville

Irene, bonne nuit Irene
Irene, bonne nuit
Bonne nuit Irène, bonne nuit Irène
Je t'embrasse dans mes rêves

Oh, parfois je vis à la campagne
Parfois je vis en ville
Parfois, je prends une bonne idée
Pour sauter dans la rivière et se noyer

Irene, bonne nuit Irene
Irene, bonne nuit

Oh, Irene, bonne nuit Irene
Irene, bonne nuit

Irene, bonne nuit Irene
Irene, bonne nuit
Oh, bonne nuit Irène, bonne nuit Irène
Je t'embrasse dans mes rêves

Oh, Irene, bonne nuit Irene
Irene, bonne nuit
Oh, bonne nuit Irène, bonne nuit Irène
Je t'embrasse dans mes rêves

Election Night With Grandchildren

Luca is a big Bernie Sanders fan. His sisters are younger and know a bit less about what is going on, but they are for Sanders too.

We watched the Democratic primary coverage tonight together and it was fun.

Being around my grandchildren feels far more natural at my age than living alone in a facility for old people.

I'm not sure what to make of this vote but if Joe Biden wins Texas, it would seem that the race is on.

Eating Lemons

My grandson Luca and I share the love of eating them. We bite into them like an orange. The family has a lemon tree in the backyard. I sat out there today in the sun watching their dog, Betsy, play with a stone. She loves to do that.

I had another of those incidents today when I was suddenly overcome with tiredness, then woke up disoriented. It has been a strange ten days.

But being here has helped a lot.

Helpers

My granddaughter Daisy helping me move recently. Thanks to my family members, we are getting closer to emptying out my long-time apartment in San Francisco.

Dispatch From Sunday Morning

Finally a decent night's sleep. Up at 6. With the stress easing over the apartment transition, I'm starting to focus less on that than on the process of how we can let go of possessions in general: Something we all need to do at some point.

Although I loved my books, I'm much more relieved to be free of them than I was keeping them.

My mood may change slightly once I have my eye surgeries, and I can read again. But I doubt it will. The items worth keeping for my children and grandchildren are photos and journals.

Most of the files can go. If I can complete my memoir, they will be footnotes.

The book giveaway taught me how redistributing them to people who can benefit from them is better than trying to make a few bucks instead. Next, my clothes can go.

Goodbye possessions! I'm much freer without you.
